Board members

Sandra Fenwick

Former President & CEO
Boston Children’s Hospital

As Chief Executive Officer of Boston Children’s Hospital (BCH) from 2013 to 2021, Sandra Fenwick led the nation’s foremost independent pediatric hospital and the world’s leading center of pediatric medical and health research. BCH is a 415-bed Harvard teaching hospital with over $2.8 billion of revenues including $450M of research funding. Since 1999 she has been a driving force in improving the effectiveness, efficacy and quality of the care provided at BCH while dramatically reducing the costs of care and remains a tireless advocate for equitable children’s health. Through a combination of hospital affiliations, outpatient specialty care centers, community health centers and partnerships, she helped create a health network across the Northeast, US and globally. She expanded commitment and investment in both basic, translational and clinical research, care, technology and delivery innovations and as well as prevention efforts focused on asthma, obesity and mental health. She has been instrumental in developing strategies that position Boston Children’s as the scientific and thought leader in pediatric health. Ms. Fenwick joined Boston Children’s 1999 as senior vice president and was appointed Chief Operating Officer that year, was named President in 2008 and was appointed Chief Executive Officer in 2013, retiring in March 2021.

She currently serves on the Board of Directors of The Risk Management Foundation of the Harvard Medical Institutions, Inc, Harvard’s Wyss Institute for Biologically-inspired Engineering, and Teladoc Health, Inc., Patient Discovery Solutions, Inc. and BCH UK Charity, Ltd. She is also a member of the International Women’s Forum Massachusetts and Women Corporate Directors/Boston.

Prior to her arrival at Boston Children’s, Ms. Fenwick served as senior vice president of System Development for CareGroup, Inc. From 1976 to 1996, she served in a number of senior executive roles at the Beth Israel Hospital in operations, strategy, and business development.

She holds a Bachelor’s degree from Simmons University with distinction and a Masters in Public Health degree in Health Services Administration from the University of Texas School of Public Health. She has received numerous awards and honorary degrees for her contribution to healthcare and business.

Norm Shore

CEO & Co-Founder

Norm is responsible for leading the company through all aspects of operations, strategy and growth.

Prior to co-founding Patient Discovery, Norm was part of the founding team and CFO of True Office, the ground-breaking adaptive learning and behavioral analytics compliance solution currently used by millions of employees across the Fortune 1000.

In 2014, True Office was acquired by Intercontinental Exchange (NYSE:ICE), the parent company of the New York Stock Exchange.  At NYSE, Norm was responsible for leading Sales and Business Development.

Prior to True Office, Norm lead two private equity-backed business: Yankee Group Research and Pharmedica. He spent many years at global roles within Unilever, including a CFO role at a Unilever joint venture with a publicly traded Israeli company.

With over two decades of leading teams through periods of high growth, Norm brings a wealth of operational and commercial experience to Patient Discovery.

Shelby Chamberlain

CSO & Co-Founder
Patient Discovery

Shelby is responsible for overall market development, corporate strategy and investor relations.

Shelby initially had the vision for Patient Discovery while sourcing, investing, and coaching early stage companies as a Managing Director at Golden Seeds. She began her career in Institutional Sales at Merrill Lynch. This was followed by a 12-year career as the founder of The ChamberlainDrucker Team, a top producing Real Estate Team in New England with over $40m in annual sales. Shelby has served as an adjunct professor at Babson College where she taught finance.

Shelby’s broad experience in capital markets and early-stage technology and healthcare investments, along with her decades of company-building experience, gives her a unique skill set and perspective for her role at Patient Discovery.

Adam Sodowick

Adam is currently the Co-founder and Chief Innovation Officer at Patient Discovery where he is responsible for all aspects of product strategy, design and development.

Prior to co-founding Patient Discovery, Adam was the founder and CEO of True Office, the ground-breaking adaptive learning and behavioral analytics compliance solution currently used by millions of employees across the Fortune 1000.

In 2014, True Office was acquired by Intercontinental Exchange (NYSE:ICE), the parent company of the New York Stock Exchange.  At NYSE, Adam served as both Chief Operating Officer and President of NYSE Governance Services.

With over two decades of building and leading breakthrough learning technology companies, Adam brings a wealth of commercial, strategic and creative experience to Patient Discovery.

Robert Harkins

VP & Owner

Bob is an experienced executive in the unified communications, security, cloud, and managed services industry. He joined Carousel Industries as a Managing Partner in 2001 and has been an integral member of the team as they have evolved from a small voice and network integrator to a premier managed services provider offering cloud-based solutions with over 1,300 employees across 35 locations in the U.S. From 2001 to date, Carousel has enjoyed countless years of profitable growth and has seen revenues climb to over $500M. Today, Bob is responsible for Carousel’s Strategic Alliances and works directly with leading global integrators such as; IBM, Verizon, AT&T, and HP, to name a few.

Previously, Bob worked for 15+ years at AT&T, Lucent, Avaya where he served in various roles in Business Development and Operations. He holds a Bachelor of Arts/Economics + Philosophy degree from Boston College, class of 1988.

John Fallon

Dr. John Fallon served as Senior Vice President and Chief Physician Executive at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts (BCBS) from 2004 through 2015. He practiced internal medicine for more than 25 years, fulfilled his residency at Boston City Hospital, and is Board Certified in Internal Medicine. He received a B.A. from the College of the Holy Cross, an M.B.A. from the University of South Florida and a M.D. from Tufts University School of Medicine.

Julanny Acevedo

Product Manager

Julanny has a decade of experience creating and managing fintech and corporate advisory solutions for Fortune 500 companies. Julanny has cultivated expertise in product and project management, user experience, and data analysis. Her most recent role was as the Product Lead at Seek, a B2C startup where she specialized in crafting tailored leisure recommendation discovery experiences.

Driven by a desire to enrich the human experience, Julanny’s curiosity led her to a new horizon – the healthcare sector. Her personal journey as a caregiver for her mother ignited a profound empathy for patients and a commitment to comprehensive care. Her multifaceted background uniquely positions her to contribute to Patient Discovery, where she brings her patient-centered perspective to the team. Julanny is passionate about self-care and holistic well-being, evident in her love for nature walks and yoga practice.

Her education foundation includes a BBA in Finance & Investments from the City University of New York – Baruch College.

Prakash Acharya

Senior Software Engineer

Even at a young age, Prakash has always had the urge to learn and create, whether it be taking apart the family computer to understand the inner workings or banging on pots and pans to make a beat. Before working at Patient Discovery, he pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, receiving the Spivey Hall Music scholarship and being admitted to the Honor’s Cohort program. After graduating in 2016, Prakash has worked in full-stack software development at multiple SASS companies in various fields, such as ticketing, marketing, and finance. He is passionate about programming, loves solving complex problems, and hopes to use his skills to help people in the healthcare field.

Serena Bowen

Senior Software Engineer

Serena is a “learn-it-all” software engineer with Patient Discovery. Leveraging a background in HCI research and accessibility advocacy, she focuses on delivering individual-centered solutions to complex issues.

Prior to joining Patient Discovery, Serena enjoyed a busy schedule while earning her B.S. in Computer Science and minor in Statistics from Western Washington University. With the support of a strong community of learners, she worked as an undergraduate researcher in WWU’s NEAT lab, a tutor and mentor in the CompSci department, and a senior student employee in Western Libraries.

Shelby Chamberlain

Elizabeth Egan

Vice President, Marketing

As Vice President of Marketing, Beth is focused on developing marketing strategies that maximize awareness and market share of Patient Discovery’s innovative solutions across US health systems, life sciences, and health plan organizations.   

A strategic marketing leader with nearly 20 years’ experience in B2B and B2B2C healthcare marketing, Beth has a demonstrated track record of building integrated programs that drive interest and growth, strengthen brand equity, elevate the client experience, and improve retention. Most recently she served as the product marketing lead for the healthcare technology start-up, Cohere Health. Prior to Cohere, she held marketing leadership roles for YourEncore, acquired by Advarra; IQVIA (NYSE: IQV); and StayWell, acquired by WebMD.   

Aaron Hoffman

Vice President, Design

Aaron leads the design efforts at Patient Discovery, ensuring that every patient can clearly and confidently choose the treatment journey that’s right for them. He directs the user experience for our software products and stewards our branding choices.

As a lifelong designer, Aaron loves finding visual solutions for complex problems and has applied this passion to: art direction and art production for indie video game studio Redstart interactive, improving compliance and e-learning at True Office Learning (formerly NYSE Governance Services), helping thousands of UK residents confidently retire online with Standard Life, and establishing his design career by creating motion graphics for BBDO NY.

Aaron holds a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, is the proud/frazzled father of two, and cares for two three-legged cats.

Rika Iida

Business Analyst

Rika is a goal-oriented business analyst with a background in the healthcare tech industry. She is passionate about bringing positive changes through the provision of data-driven insights and strategic solutions. 

Rika holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Sophia University and a Master of Science in Business Analytics from Golden Gate University. Outside of work, she finds joy in practicing yoga, engaging in pilates, and experimenting with cooking.

Michael Keirnan

System Architect

Michael is a seasoned software developer with over 30 years of experience at technology startup companies. He has a passion for creating software that solves complex issues.  Michael has always been an advocate for the responsible use and development of technology and in his role continues to follow this mantra.

Before joining Patient Discovery Michael was a founding employee and Chief Software Architect at Humu Labs, building data analysis and visualization software. Prior to that he served as Software Architect and VP of DevOps at Noteflight, an online music notation service (later acquired by Hal Leonard LLC). Before that he was an early employee and senior developer at successful startups ATG (Art Technology Group, NASDAQ: ARTG, later acquired by Oracle) and Sybase (later acquired by SAP).

Julie Stern

Chief Technology Officer

Julie Stern is a growth-oriented healthcare CTO with over 20 years of executive technology leadership in the areas of patient, provider, and care team engagement, and driving insights through health data using natural language processing and machine learning (AI).

She most recently served as the EVP Engineering, CIO, and CISO for H1, creating a health equity data platform focused on the curation of global healthcare professional profiles to identify key opinion leaders with a focus on diverse patient populations. Julie has also served as CTO/CISO/CPO at leading healthcare technology companies including Accolade, HealthReveal, and Vesta Healthcare (Hometeam). She was also the Co-Founder and CTO of konciergeMD. Julie serves as strategic technical advisor at Integrated VC, and for several healthcare technology companies including Lumate Health and Outro.

Julie graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a B.S. in Applied Mathematics and Computer Science and expects to complete the Wharton Aresty Institute Chief Technology Officer program in June 2023.

Brian Winkle

Director, Engineering

Brian is a people-first engineering leader with a decade-plus of experience working primarily in healthcare technology. He focuses on building tech the right way and growing people and teams to support that effort.

Most recently, Brian was a Lead Engineer at Aluna, a startup focused on remote patient monitoring for people living with asthma. Prior to that, he held similar roles at H1 and Vesta Healthcare and was an Engineering Manager at e-commerce company StockX.

Brian graduated from the University of Chicago with an M.S. in Computer Science and outside of work he tends to his toddler and his koi pond.

Kelly Tice, MD

VP, Medical Affairs and Chief Health Equity Officer
Guidewell, Florida Blue

Kelli Tice, MD, is a family physician with a background in public health who serves as GuideWell and Florida Blue’s Vice President, Medical Affairs and Chief Health Equity Officer. In this role, which she assumed in January 2022, Dr. Tice is responsible for creating solutions that improve health outcomes and address health inequities for GuideWell’s customers and communities.

In addition to leading the company’s health equity strategy, she has responsibilities in the areas of corporate social responsibility and public health surveillance. Dr. Tice is also the clinical lead for Florida Blue’s COVID-19 response. Additionally, Dr. Tice is a key member of the Equity Alliance, an enterprise-wide initiative focused on addressing systemic racism and health disparities for Black Americans. Prior to her current role, she served as Senior Medical Director for Medical Affairs.

Early in her medical training, Dr. Tice became interested in addressing health disparities and delivering culturally competent care. Dr. Tice taught cultural competency for physicians, and incorporated evidence-based techniques to promote health equity into primary care practice in both private and public clinical settings. She is passionate about health education and she enjoys mentoring and community involvement.

Before joining GuideWell and Florida Blue in 2018, she spent 17 years as a public health physician, serving in numerous leadership roles including that of County Health Officer and State Medical Director for the Florida Department of Health.

Dr. Tice is a member of the Florida Academy of Family Physicians, and currently serves as the President of Northeast Florida Medical Society. She received her bachelor’s degree from Florida A&M University, her medical degree from the University of Florida College of Medicine and completed her residency at St. Vincent’s Family Practice Residency Program.

Irene Dankwa-Mullan, MD, MPH

Dr. Irene Dankwa-Mullan is a nationally recognized industry physician, scientist, health equity thought leader, with over 20 years of diverse regional and national leadership experience in primary care, healthcare systems, businesses, and the community. She is currently an affiliate professor in the Department of Health Policy and Management, Milken Institute School of Public Health at The George Washington University, and also serves in a strategic advisor role and Chief Health Officer for a start-up health technology company, Marti Health.

She was formerly Chief Health Equity Officer and Deputy Chief Health Officer at IBM Watson Health and currently Merative. She was a member of the IBM Industry Academy, a selected community of pre-eminent leaders to drive innovation and engage in cutting-edge work for the industry. Dr. Dankwa-Mullan was formerly Director, Office of Research Innovation and Program Coordination, and Deputy Director for extramural scientific programs at NIMHD, NIH. While at the NIH, she was active on several key strategic boards and committees, including many that were cross-sectoral and transdisciplinary promoting health equity and health in all policies.

She is the lead editor and co-author of the scientific textbook ‘The Science of Health Disparities Research’ published by Wiley, designed to help researchers and the community identify relevant questions, design approaches, and conduct studies to advance the discipline. This was a collaborative effort with NIH scientists and thought leaders including community advocates. She serves on various advisory committees to promote public health, health equity, as well as measures impacting health disparities. Dankwa-Mullan has published widely on health disparities, including on the integration of health equity, artificial intelligence and machine-learning, ethical AI and social justice principles into data science methods and technology development lifecycle.

Anabell Castro Thompson, MSN, APRN, ANP-C, FAANP, FAAN

Anabell Castro Thompson is a Nurse Practitioner and Senior Vice President at Suvida Healthcare. In her role, she oversees the Guia Program a newly envisioned role in healthcare meant to improve trust, assistance, communication, and care coordination between patients, their families, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams.

A Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, Anabell’s leadership exemplifies sustained commitment towards improving healthcare for Latino and underserved communities. Determined to bridge health care disparities, she is responsible for building and managing innovative programs and strategic initiatives which heighten engagement, foster trust, improve outcomes, and decrease costs.

A 20-year healthcare veteran and Latino advocate, Anabell is a former President of the National Association of Hispanic Nurses (NAHN) and serves on multiple national boards. She is nationally renowned for her work in health equity, end of life care, climate health, cultural care, and the intersectionality of medical health and the social determinants of health.

Anabell has been recognized by multiple national organizations including the National Association of Hispanic Nurses (NAHN), R.A.I.N. Total Care, the National Association of Distinguished Professionals, the National Hispanic Medical Association (NHMA), the Valle Del Sol Inc, the Arizona Diamondbacks, Univision, and Azteca America.  Anabell has been honored as a distinguished alumna by both her alma maters—the University of Arizona and Arizona State University.

April Mims

SVP, Public Policy
Hims & Hers

April is the Senior Vice President of Public Policy at Hims & Hers, where she oversees government relations, public affairs and policy partnerships for all 50 states and at the federal level. She was drawn to Hims & Hers because of their commitment to consumer-driven care and strong values. Previously, April was Director of Public Policy at Lyft. She prides herself on working collaboratively with government, corporate and non-profit stakeholders to solve problems and advance public policy for the 21st century. April has built her career advocating for innovative companies and projects and has participated in various panels and public hearings throughout the United States. She is a New York attorney with a J.D. from the Georgetown University Law Center.
